I’ll be watching a movie from the 70's or 80's and start marveling at the eclectic choices of cars saying “Man, I haven’t seen a Chevy Citation in forever!” before realizing that those cars were just the ones that were freaking everywhere and no thought was given about them at the time of filming.

Absolutely!

Lately I’ve been on an 80's TV kick. It’s not all Crown Vics and LTDs, there’s a lot of cool stuff hidden in the background.

How about the companies who had the foresight to do things like save Chevy Citations and keep them in mint condition because one day in 40 years somebody will actual want crappy, period-accurate vehicles for a movie? Boggles the mind.

Same. I also watch newer TV and movies and wonder where they unearth some of the stuff they drive around in.

Yep. A couple of days back, watching Diamonds are Forever. “Hey, neat, that’s a... oh.”

yep. kind of like watching an older movie and realizing “all of these people are dead now.”

It’s why I occasionally like reading Curbside Classic. I see examples of cars I grew up around but totally forgot. example, pretty much everyone remembers the mid-70s Gran Torino:

But how many remember the base (non-Gran) Torino with its egg-crate grille?

Even just watching the 1st season of the X Files I was amazed at all the cars I never see anymore. Also old cars is one of the great things about older tv shows.

Yeah, I do that exact same thing. I’m always shocked when I see clean versions of cars like that on the road. I saw a clean early first gen Ford Escort recently, and damn near spit my coffee out.
